In many Nigerian households, December is joyful but financially stressful.
Families want to celebrate, host relatives, cook good food, and enjoy the holidays — yet the cost of buying provisions all at once can be overwhelming. The founders of Belleza had already built a trusted community where people contributed small amounts throughout the year and received food packages in December.
But the real challenge wasn’t the idea.
It was trust at scale.
People needed to believe that if they paid ₦5,000 every month, the food would actually arrive in December. They needed transparency, reassurance, and proof that the system worked — especially in a market where many contribution platforms fail.
At first glance, Belleza Detty December looked like a simple prepaid package system.
But beneath that simplicity were several deeper design challenges.
First, we needed to clearly explain that the platform was not a savings or investment scheme. It was a prepaid purchasing system where installment payments went toward bulk food packages.
Second, the experience had to build continuous trust throughout the year. Users weren’t paying once — they were committing to 12 months of contributions. If the platform felt confusing or opaque at any point, confidence could break.
Third, the platform had to work for a wide demographic: busy parents, working professionals, and everyday families who might not be deeply familiar with complex digital apps.
How should the platform feel when
someone makes their first contribution?
The answer wasn’t flashy.
It needed to feel safe, clear, and dependable.
Every part of the interface reinforced that feeling.
